christmas_2009_01 DALLAS, TX – Dec. 27, 2009 I arrived in Dallas, Texas on Sept. 22, 1998. Autumn has just begun. With the winter months on deck, I wished to witness a White Christmas. The winter of 1998 has come and gone, but there was no White Christmas; not even a glimpse of snow. I just experienced the cold weather of the winter.

The winter of 1999 enabled me to see snow for the first time. Even the following years brought snow only for two or three days and my dream of a white Christmas was in vain.

But on December 24. 2009, Dallas-Forth Worth got an early gift – a white Christmas Eve. Snow, wind blew through Dallas-Fort Worth area. The snowstorm that created Thursday’s blizzard-like conditions with wind gusts of up to 50 mph began before noon and lasted into the night.

As per press reports, the weather have also caused a double-fatality accident on U.S. Highway 380 in Frisco and more than 300 accidents statewide.

The 3 inches recorded Thursday at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport was the first measurable Christmas Eve snowfall since the National Weather Service began keeping records in 1898. The first White Christmas in Dallas occured in that year.

The wintry skies cleared after midnight, with temperatures in the low 40s, but icy road conditions lingered until Christmas Day.

As the temperatures dropped Thursday, sheets of ice formed across Dallas freeways, stranding motorists on overpasses including the High Five in Far North Dallas. By 6:45 p.m., Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel were notifying Texas Department of Transportation officials to shut down the High Five, the area’s tallest overpass.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported problems on roadways across Denton, Grayson, Cooke and Wise counties.

Hundreds of motorists lined U.S. Highway 287 between Wichita Falls and Bowie, unable to move for hours.

Despite the weather that forced some to cancel holiday plans, some cheered up at the thought of a white Christmas. They concluded that it was spectacular seeing snow on Christmas Eve.

And besides, the white Christmas stirred me into a festive mood. At last, I witnessed a White Christmas! Hence, a dream come true!
