DALLAS, Jan 2, 2009 / FW/ — It has been a long time since I spent Christmas with my ‘barkada’ Doris Villanueva nee Cabuhat. Growing up in Cavinti, Christmas vacation meant hanging out with friends as we went caroling or the traditional ‘labunan’. As adults and now middle-aged, gray hair notwithstanding, it was fun remembering our happy memories of Christmas past in Cavinti.
Both of us live in Texas now. While I moved here in Dallas way back in 1998, Doris and her husband Celso, who had been living in New Jersey for sometime, moved to Collin County, the richest county in the state of Texas in early 2008. As the saying goes around here, everything is bigger than Texas, Doris and Celso built a 4,000 square foot home to the very affluent north Texas neighborhood of Plano.
Spending their first Christmas here at the Lone Star state, Doris and Celso invited family and friends. Former Laguna Board Member and Cavinti Mayor Dominador Cabuhat and wife Gena, Doris’ parents were joined by daughter Jerlene, husband Freddie Aranguren and children Kevin and Anne together with Celso and Doris welcomed their guests.
A true Christmas feast with all the trimmings, both Filipino and American was shared for Christmas dinner. In true Texas style, there was MORE of everything!
