A strong upper level system moved through North Texas Saturday night and even though the rain and snow has stopped for most parts of Texas, Dallas-Fort Worth area residents woke up to a winter wonderland on the first day of spring.
Some people in the northern parts of the Metroplex reported six to eight inches of snow at their houses. But in the southern areas, an inch or two of snow accumulated and some of it had melted by noon.
Temperature inched toward freezing overnight, making area roads slick early today.
While the first day of spring didn’t feel much like it, it’s not unusual to see a freeze this late. March 15 is the average day of the last freeze in Dallas-Fort Worth.
Temperatures are expected to reach the lower 40s during the day, and winds may hit 20 to 30 mph with gusts around 40 mph.
Now for the good news, by Monday this will be a distant memory with highs leaping back into the low to mid 60s with sunny skies and southerly wind.
