The Serenata Children’s Choir, a children’s choir group composed of 44 children, rendered an excellent musical performance early this month at the American International School in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The children’s ages range rom 7 – 16 years old. The members of the choir are children of overseas Filipino workers from at least six Filipino schools in Jeddah.
Their performance, which was dubbed as “Serenata…With strings attached”, was directed by Kiel Erida. The 3-hour musical show included English and foreign songs, Filipino folksongs as well as traditional and original Pilipino music or OPM music.
The group performed in front of diplomats and almost a thousand expatriates from America, Japan, France, India, the Philippines and Arab nationals as well.
It was a splendid performance. The show was not just a musical treat but a showcase of hardwork.
The Filipino onlookers were very proud of the young performers.
Jeddah Philippine Consul General Ezzedin Tago, who was present in almost all performances of Serenata, said the group is a model organization with noble cause and vision. He said that they are an inspiration to the Filipino Community in the Philippines and abroad.
Serenata’s vision is to uplift the socio-economic standard of marginalized sectors of Philippine society by creating a sustainable organization that will produce a world-class children’s choir. The choir aims to promote the Filipino culture, values and enhance the Filipino global image through local and international performances.
Proceeds from the successful concert will be used to send four selected scholars to college. Amid the global financial crisis, Serenata found this as a golden opportunity to reach the needy. The choir members shared their talents for a worthy cause.
Sylvia delos Santos, Serenata’s musical director, is glad that Serenata’s project is in line with education.
