NEW YORK & OSLO, Dec 10, 2009 / FW/ — Pres Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize today with the First Lady Michelle Obama at his side wearing a sulfite laser cut velvet dress and sulfite laser cut velvet jacket from the Fall 2009 Calvin Klein Collection designed by Francisco Costa, the brands’ Women’s Creative Director.
Arguably the most important event in his presidency since he took office, the Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony held at the Oslo City Hall in Norway was watched by the whole world.
Michelle Obama’s choice of wardrobe will not make ripples in the political world, but it will in the fashion world as the First Lady chose an American label in this prestigious and highly visible event.
Though a very popular president, there is controversy surrounding Pres Barack Obama’s winning the Nobel Peace Prize. For those who follow up on these things, below is the President’s speech as released by the White House.
Your Majesties, Your Royal Highnesses, Distinguished Members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, citizens of America, and citizens of the world:
I receive this honor with deep gratitude and great humility. It is an award that speaks to our highest aspirations – that for all the cruelty and hardship of our world, we are not mere prisoners of fate. Our actions matter, and can bend history in the direction of justice.
And yet I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the considerable controversy that your generous decision has generated. In part, this is because I am at the beginning, and not the end, of my labors on the world stage. Compared to some of the giants of history who have received this prize – Schweitzer and King; Marshall and Mandela – my accomplishments are slight. And then there are the men and women around the world who have been jailed and beaten in the pursuit of justice; those who toil in humanitarian organizations to relieve suffering; the unrecognized millions whose quiet acts of courage and compassion inspire even the most hardened of cynics. I cannot argue with those who find these men and women – some known, some obscure to all but those they help – to be far more deserving of this honor than I.

One can say that President Obama is a purveyor of irony. In his speech itself, he tried to justify the righteousness of war in Afghanistan that he blessed. NPR reports: “Make no mistake: Evil does exist in the world. A nonviolent movement could not have halted Hitler’s armies. Negotiations cannot convince al-Qaida’s leaders to lay down their arms,” he told the crowd. One can really say that he has a sense of humor. heheheh.

Just when you think that you’ve seen it all. I can not believe the Barack Obama is expecting companies that did not even receive any bail out money to pay it all back. These bail outs were a horrible idea. why is chrysler and GM not expected to pay back the money they received when companies that did not get anything have to foot the bill. This is terrible policy.

This is poor tax policy. These companies should have been allowed to stand or fail on their own. Barack Obama now wants to tax companies that were not even involved. You should not punish companies that did no wrong. That money will just go for more social programs.
