On April 5, 2008, tipakan.com was born! It was and still is a Mother’s Day and birthday gifts to my mother Lucila C. Oblena.
The reason for this gift was very selfish on my part. A few days before I registered the domain tipakan.com, I read a report published by the AMA that seniors who surf the web regularly and ‘google’ have better memory retention than those who do not. I decided to give my mother a blog / website with the hope of driving away senility, dementia and Alzheimer’s.
But of course, my mother being who she is thought of tipakan.com as an online home for Cavintinians all over the world, including of course the ones still in Cavinti. It will be the 21st century equivalent of the town crier, the bamboo telegraph, even the “kuwentuhan sa barberya” or “sa kanto.”
Fast forward two years and tipakan.com as a community website is very successful. Thanks to contributors – Sonny Belleza, Ningning Ansay Ortiz, Ismhael (Mel) Castillo, Vangie Lazaro, Rolando Ansay, Cesar Mesina, Marites Titoy Gumiran, among others, tipakan.com had brought news to the Cavinti global village.
Since tipakan.com went online, I have seen my mother and all the contributors work so hard to get the news to you. For those who are not technically inclined, learning all these is very hard. But, everyone persevered and has been very successful.
As for me, every time I see my mother who is now 86 trying to write an article, visit YouTube and Facebook to glean news about Cavinti just makes me realize that though my reasons for putting up tipakan.com was selfish, she made it altruistic.
So, please help us bring news to our kababayans all over the world. Send in your news and your photos. We might be geographically apart but we trace our roots from one place. We want to hear from you and our kababayans feel the same.

If the responses and bloggers to the site were the yardsticks of success, then beyond doubt Tipakan has now established itself as the Global Forum for all Cavintinians. More power to both of you!
