With the couple are Maridel Bituin (nee de los Santos) and her mother. Maridel is the wife of Warren, a son of the elder Bituins.

Presenting a parody of the British play, The Full Monty, Ed Avelino, Boy Bien Villanueva, Teody Gahite, Ted Ramos, Adan Vita, Jun Benerayan, and surprisingly Ding Ansay of Chicago came out gyrating on the stage, titillating the audience by taking off their articles of clothing one by one.

After the dinner, Adan Vita opened up the evening with his welcome address, followed by Ed Avelino’s introductions of visitors and acknowledging the presence of out-of-town guests from California, Seattle, Texas, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Michigan, Ohio, Philadelphia, Maryland, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Chicago; Michigan; Windsor, Ontario; London, England; the State of Kuwait in the Middle East; and from the Philippines, fellow Cavintinians Wilma De Leon-Flores and Guerrick Mariano.

Day 3 Sunday, August 1 – Cavinti Night (Dinner and Dance): With more than four hundred guests who are mostly in formal attires, the consensus is that this year’s fiesta is the most attended and exuberant in 30 years. This is also the year of “Balik-Mamimiyesta” (Previous visitors returning after years of hiatus).

After the Holy Mass, a procession of the Imahen of San Salvador del Mundo went around the church’s outdoor premises culminating at the Church Banquet Hall. Prior to the program paparazzi wannabes were given 15-minute photo-ops, which a lot of devotees availed themselves to take souvenir photos by the statue of San Salvador del Mundo.

Day 2 Saturday, July 31 – Picnic: The clear sky and ideal summer temperatures once again made Meadowvale Conservation Park in Mississauga the perfect play ground for young and not so young alike, and for meeting Kababayans and friends.

Expressions of the day are “Ya, hamo ka na” (translation: oh my gosh is that you!), “sa hindi pa” (translation: but of course), and “Yae” (oh gee, really?). This Cavinti colloquialism is music to the ears especially to those who have been away from home for a long, long time.

As a Mother’s Day gift, I made this photo album for my mother Lucila Oblena. From experiencing the joy of seeing snow on the first day of spring, to attending mass officiated by Bishop Kevin Farrell of Dallas and enjoying an evening with Barbara Bush, daughter of Pres. George W. Bush, I am just happy that she had experienced all of these things in the autumn of her life.

A native of Cavinti, Lucila C. Oblena spent all her working years as an educator, beginning as a classroom teacher in 1944, then a Guidance Counselor and retired as a school Principal. She is also the founder of CLOTA (Cavinti Laguna Overseas Teachers Association). She is the Editor of Tipakan.com (Cavinti Diaspora).
