Philippines Observes 110th Independence Day Anniversary

The observance of the 110th anniversary of the Philippine Independence Day  at  the Rizal Park (Luneta) in Manila was led by Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. The President’s party arrived at the site shortly before 7:00 a.m. to start the celebration simultaneously with another observance at the Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite, as published by ABS-CBN News.

Government, military and police officials welcomed the President. They all attended the flag-raising, wreath laying and unveiling of the Philippine marker ceremonies.

It was reported that the “Kalayaan 2008″ Task Force decided to limit funfare in this year’s celebration to give way for more services like health and employment  to the people.

A job fair,  film showing, sports and cultural activities, medical assistance, seminars and exhibits were showcased at the park’s Plaza San Lorenzo Ruiz.

Meanwhile, Vice President Noli de Castro led the celebration in Kawit, Cavite at the home of Emilio Aguinaldo. The flag raising and the wreath laying rites were held with the participation of Vice President de Noli Castro, Cavite representative Jun  Abaya, Mayor Dick  Aguinaldo and Lt. Gen. Cardozo Luna.

Ceremonies were also held in various cities and towns nationwide.

Likewise, in commemoration of Philippine Independence Day, Filipinos in different countries of the world observed the day with various activities.
