Our Eighteen-hour Flight and Beyond – Part III (End)

belleza_san_fernando01 Sunday! Our group did not let the weekend pass without an outing. As early as the morning of that Sunday, everyone was loaded in their vehicles, dashing to San Fernando, La Union to attend a baptismal party.

After the reception, we took some time to explore the vicinity, particularly the nearby beach. White sand and the China Sea offered us an array of beachfront activities. We experienced the picturesque beauty of the beach as we strolled on the walkway along the sea. We wished we could stay longer, but because we were already in the area, we have decided to go to Baguio.

The ascent to the Pine City took us only more than half an hour. We took the historic Kennon Road a.k.a. “Zizag” Road that is the shortest access route to Baguio City, with a minimal toll fee of (Php15 or USD.30) for cars.

As it snakes through Bued River Canyon, we saw many waterfalls, pine trees and mountainsides dotted with wild sunflowers.

The Bridal Veil Falls along the historical Kennon caught our attention. Water that springs from the mountain cascades down strong. I hope water falls along this road will flow crystal clear and never dry up.

We stayed at the Manor Hotel at Camp John Hay, compliments of our host at the baptismal party. It is a cozy and luxurious ambiance, as well as a perfect place for a relaxing vacation.

On the following day we went to the Cathedral, Burnham Park, The Mansion, The Wright Park, The Botanical Garden and the Mines View Park. In all these famous landmarks are also a lot of shops where one can buy Baguio products such as the peanut brittle, other fruit preserves, wood carvings, native blankets and sweaters and silver jewelry.

One whole day, another time of merrymaking and pleasure! Late in the evening of the same day, our vehicles were bound for Manila to get ready for the return flight to the
U. S. A.
