Laguna Fruit Carver Shares Talent in Europe

A Lagunian, Danilo Palit, from Paete, a town in Laguna famous for hand-crafted and carved wooden products, has gained admiration from thousands of people who have seen him turn a fruit into a noteworthy work of art.

Wherever he gives demonstrations, people are very much fascinated with his artwork.  According to him, it is a God-given talent, so he is always willing  to share his skill  to anyone.

Before coming to Europe, Danilo worked for a prestigious five-star hotel in Manila. There, he learned the art of fruit carving. He aimed high and was given the chance to travel abroad, where he now shares his talent.

Palit works in a luxury or cruise ship.  Recently, he demonstrated his talent in the presence of about a thousand passengers in that luxury ship that sailed the Mediterranean Sea.

Armed with a small but sharp carving knife, Palit turned an ordinary papaya into a beautiful bouquet, a raddish into a tiny rabbit, and a rare orchid from a carrot.

“He is really a very talented guy. And people joining our cruise appreciate his talent. This is the very reason why this demonstration and seminars on fruit carving are important part of our cruise program,” said the Romanian cruise director, Danny Buru.

“I came from a wood-carver family. Kaya nga nagkahilig ako na mag-ukit ng kahit anong klaseng bagay. I am very glad that I have been given the opportunity to share my talent here in Europe,” Palit told ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau.

Palit is planning to publish a book on creative carving. He plans to present simple, easy to make, and highly attractive ways of carving fruits and vegetables for salads, garnishes, unusual and exotic dishes, light-as-air fruit-based desserts, as well as table decorations.
