A rite of passage, turning 18 is a joyous occasion for everyone – the celebrant, the family and friends, who all gather to celebrate the event.
I still remember the day Kristina was born, she was so little, and you can hold her in one arm. Eighteen years had passed since that first day of October when Kristina came to our life. The first born child of my sister Helen and her husband Joey, Kristina is also my first niece, being the first girl born to the family in her generation.
Demographers call Kristina a Millennial or Net Generation, defined as those who had never known a world without the internet, those who were born to a digital world. UC Fullerton calls her a Freshman, as Kristina just entered university last September.
But to us, her family, she will always be our little girl who has a bright smile and optimistic attitude.
