In Memory of a Dear Friend, Donying Villanueva

Celedonio Villanueva (Oct 1, 1935 – Oct 25, 2010)

Last night I had a dream,
I dreamed I flew up, up and away;
‘Till I mingled amongst the stars of the milky way,
Where the eternal kingdom’s open door remains.

Passing along the path of flight,
Fresh roses along the way I plucked;
Twelve in all, I think, I got, to wish,
My beloved friend, Donying, good luck!

In no time at all, myself, I found
Right within the palace chamber’s heart;
Curtsying in humble respect before the Almighty,
“Come, get closer. For you how can I be of help?”

With mute words in loving prayers,
And in low voice, whisper did I to our Beloved King;
For dear Donying, I beg Thee,
Do hand him these fragrant flowers, please.

With sweet smile gladly he obliged,
Marvel of all marvels felt I at the sight;
Of His tender kiss planted on my friend’s cheeks,
True gesture of mercy and outpouring grace!

As I awake, sincere prayers, I do ask,
From every pious readers all;
Grant him eternal rest, O God,
And In Your bosom bless him with unending peace.

Amen.
