Ian Winkenwerder Faces The Road Ahead

A second-generation Cavinti diaspora from his mother side, Ian Winkenwerder graduated from Rowland Heights High School last June 10, 2008. The younger son of Mark and Heide (nee Belleza) Winkenwerder, Ian plans to be a firefighter or enter the Emergency Medical Services field.

When asked why he wanted to be a firefighter, Ian answered ‘It’s just something I want to do.’ And quite frankly, his choice is a good one.

As the events of September 11 had proven, our firefighters and EMS personnel risk their lives everyday to save someone. Before Sept. 11, 2001, as Americans, we took their existence for granted, something we call as ‘our tax dollars at work.’ Yet, the heroism displayed by the firefighters and EMS personnel during that fateful day in 2001 will forever be remembered in history.
