How hot is it in Texas?

Much have been read, heard and said about Texas and its hot summers, but mostly I’m wondering if its the perspective of heat that led people to that conclusion. I lived for sometime in Southern California, hence, have spent some hot summers there. Southern California is a desert for those of you who don’t know and it can average 80′s most of the year with summers getting into the 90 to 100′s range for most of the summer months. Go further inland and sometimes it’s 103 in the shade. This I saw in the thermometers in the car/s of my nephews/neices when I am riding with them.

All I hear are people talking about the horrendous heat in Texas, some asking me if I can resist the heat here, since I have considered Texas my home for ten years now more or less. I would remark then that Texas is not the only state in the continental US that may be perceived as hell on earth.

People also say that most Texans go on vacation during the hottest summer months to rid themselves of the heat. May I say that, likewise, most Americans leave their homes at those times of the year for the same reason.

Some people have already had their A/C on since March. We refuse to do that as the electric bills go way too high. We always try our best to hold out until at least mid-May, although it isn’t easy; some days are quite uncomfortable. So in a sense, it may be safe to say that it’s no worse than the states being cooped up all winter. Some Texans are cooped up all summer. Shade brings no relief to humidity.

Everyone has their own opinion and some tolerate it better than others. The truth of the matter is: Texas is really hot and often, very humid. That’s just the way it is.
