Summer time and the living is easy. This old line holds true. Alas, summer is winding down and the days are getting shorter, truly a harbinger of autumn to come.
It’s comforting to think though that soon the landscape will be transformed into a kaleidoscope of brilliant fall colours that surely will excite the senses.
From birthday parties, wedding anniversary celebrations, Paluwagan meetings and novenas to our Patron, San Salvador del Mundo, to the fiesta festivities, the summer of 2009 will be long remembered as one of the most hectic and exciting summers that the Cavinti Club of the Greater Toronto Area’s (GTA) Paluwagan group has ever had in a long while.
Continuing the frenzy and savoring the remaining hurrahs of summer, 10 couples from the said GTA club descended to the neighboring Eastern US States on August 11th.
The couples were Ed & Irma Avelino, Mel & Aggie Castillo, Adan & Florie Vita, Gil & Lennie Linay, Jim & Miner Mesina, Mike & Perla Diaz, Winnie & Lolit Mirasol, Jun & Rose Benerayan, Lindo & Gay Linay, and Nilo Flores & Lorna L. Dionisio.
Leaving Toronto at 7:00 am, our tour bus promptly rolled into Hwy 401 leading us into the Peace Bridge in Niagara Falls, one of the eastern links between Canada and the USA.
I usually try to remain calm during routine inspection process at the border such as this one, yet somehow the sight of the Custom Officers seemed disconcerting. Could it be their bearing, uniform, or the aura of authority that they exude?
Whatever the reason, I was glad (a feeling shared by many) that after a long queue of tour buses and meticulous examinations of our travel documents, we were finally let go.
