Filipino Family Forgets Baby at Canadian Airport

A 23-month old baby was left by a Filipino family when they boarded an airplane at the Vancouver International Airport in British Columbia, Canada last Monday, May 12, 2008, Agence France-Presse reported.

The family has just arrived from the Philippines. They were bound for Winnepeg but they were forced to repack their bags which were found to be overweight causing them to hurry lest they be late for their connecting flight. The family rushed to the gate and in their haste they were separated.

Likewise, the family members were seated separately in the plane. Nobody has noticed that the boy was missing.

Not long after the plane has taken off, the boy was seen wandering near the departure gate.  A security guard found him, but he cannot speak English, hence the problem of identifying the boy. Thanks to the Air Canada officials who were able to track down the boy’s parents. They also looked for someone who could talk to the boy and they found  a Filipino who looked after the boy while waiting for the father to pick him up.

In an interview by the media, the boy’s father, Jun Parenno, said that he thought his son was with the mother and the grandparents. On the other hand, the mother thought her son was with her husband.

The father was very grateful to the Air Canada personnel and staff, as well as to the Filipino who kept company for his son until his arrival.  They stayed at the Air Canada office.

Finally, Father and son were ready to fly to Winnepeg, Manitoba, their final destination in Canada.
