Critical Thinking

This is an article Mr. RAAnsay read in Iron Mountain Daily News.com and is sharing with us. You will be amazed at how the young boy offered his solutions to the problems posed by his Grandpa. It’s worth reading and will give you a laugh.

EDITOR: A couple of years immediately after the 9/11 New York World Center bombing, A U.S. intelligence report indicated that Osama Bin Laden was spotted somewhere within the Tora Bora area in Afghanistan.

NATO allied forces eager to capture him dead or alive bombarded the area only to find out he slipped away literally unscathed.

At that time I wanted to test the critical thinking ability of my young grandson who was then in his early grade school years. So, I posed this question to him, what could be the best way to get Osama Bin Laden?

Here’s what he said, “Gather all the poisonous snakes from all the zoos in the United States. Load them in airplanes. Once they reach the mountainous region of Tora Bora, unload them from the sky. Just watch if the Al Qaeda leader could survive from the venom of the serpents.”

Now my grandson is in his high school years and has matured quite a bit. And intrigued by the magnitude of damage caused to the U.S. resulting from the BP oil spill in the Gulp of Mexico, I accosted him one day to ask what could be the sure way to solve the problem.

Here’s what he said, “Commission some U.S. Navy submarines to undertake under water maneuver to seal off the oil gushing mouth on the ocean floor. To be done before hand is to prepare a water resistant cement mixed formula to be loaded in torpedo capsules ready for firing onto the oil emitting hole and surrounding area from the submarines aligned in single file to do the the hole sealing job in a speedy sequential order.”

My grandson suggested that massive environmental clean up would be done once the oil spill stops. Funny, isn’t it?
