The essence of Christmas is its being the season of jubilant celebration, peace, love and hope. As Filipino-Americans away from home, we welcome Christmas as an occasion to express our grateful appreciation for the goodness of His Almighty for giving His Son for our redemption.
We also celebrate Christmas as a way to rekindle our ties with our families and friends, to whisper a word of love to our enemies who have hurt us, to amend our resolution as maybe. As the year comes to a close, I do speculate that the Cavinti Laguna Overseas Teachers Association (CLOTA) will forever exist and do more service to benefit the school children and the community as well. Since CLOTA is financially handicapped, it cannot showcase any bigger projects except doing minimal activities like: 1) CLOTA is able to disseminate all informative news local and abroad through the organization’s Newsletter which is painstakingly done and supported by active members; 2) provided feeding programs to three barangay schools in 2008 in Cavinti; 3) packing of relief goods for the typhoon victims and 4) joined the “Lakad Tulong” with the members of New York Consular Staff and association leaders.
As one community organization in the U.S. we must strive to take care of each other, promote and abide with the club constitution to pay our yearly dues and help if we can those who are in dire need among our constituents. I hope each of us can can achieve success and bring a better future for our families.
The sudden occurrence of catastrophic disasters like Typhoons “Ondoy and Pepeng” that marred our beloved country shows only that we, as a Christian country, still believe in His omnipotent power that we can survive these trials and sufferings. After the rain, the sun follows; then go on and move on. It is through our unity of purpose, concerted efforts and strong faith in the Almighty that we are confident to lay claim to a New Prosperous Year.
I therefore, join all CLOTANS anywhere in the world in spreading the spirit of Christmas in prayers, unity and love with anticipation of a brighter tomorrow that our friendship lives on.
