DALLAS, Aug 19, 2009 / — “Fixin’ To Be Texan”, a delightfully witty book by Helen Bryant seemed to be the appropriate title for Celso & Doris Villanueva’s house blessing that was held last month, July 19, 2009.
And here in Texas, you can truly have double the pleasure, double the fun like what they say in the Wrigley’s Spearmint Gum commercial. A week later, on July 25, 2009, the house blessing part was held!
With their family in attendance, Doris’ parents, Former Laguna Provincial Board Member Dominador Cabuhat and wife Gena, and Jerlene (nee Cabuhat) and Freddie Aranguren, Doris and Celso welcomed Cavintinians and new friends they have made in Texas since they moved to the Lone Star State last year.
Traveling from New York to see their friends, Christmas and Joe Loveje plus their two kids, together with Dempna Tinea and Delsife Diaz drove all the way from New York to visit.
From the west coast, Jinky Linay Pascual flew in from Los Angeles while Boyet Villamin flew in from Las Vegas.
The Cavintinians from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex are all present – Gerry Reyes and his two girls, Angelica and Nicole, Lucy Oblena and her daughter Mari Davis, Mayet Flores Stringfield and family, Gerry Villamin and wife, Ben and Lilia Villamin, Jun Zalamea (son of General Oscar Zalamea) and the children and grandchild of Emy Villamin Leal.
And just a short explanation for those who are not familiar with the term “fixin’” As you already know, fixin’ is short for “fixing” but it does not necessarily means to repair something when used in Texas and the southern states.
In the context that it was used in this article, fixin’ means “getting ready.” For everyday use, Texans usually say, “I’m fixin’ to go to the grocery store,” which just means “I’m getting ready to go to the grocery store” that can mean from dressing up to already getting in the car.

Celso and Doris,
Looking at the pictures of your beautiful house is like flipping through the pages of the Architectural Digest. Congratulations and God Bless both of you and your house.
