Bearing the Cold in Dallas/North Texas

A very cold weather is prevailing across North Texas after the first snowfall last Sunday noon. North Texans experienced very cold nights. Overnight temperatures dipped toward the freezing point — and well below that in outlying areas as a cold high pressure system settles across the region for another day or two. Forecasters don’t expect any precipitation in the Dallas area, but counties in far northeastern Texas are still experiencing light snowfall.

Monday and Tuesday were indeed pleasant days inasmuch as the sun was up during the two days but still it was extremely cold.

On this dangerously cold days, two schools in the Dallas Independent School District are dealing with critical maintenance issues: John Ireland Elementary School and another neighboring school.

Very cold nights are expected across North Texas. A cold Canadian air mass has moved into North Texas and this will
keep temperatures well below normal through Thursday. Temperatures are expected to plummet after sunset this evening and bottom out in the teens for most locations across North Texas by sunrise. Locations mainly north of I-20 and east of I-35 will be below freezing for up to 36 hours straight. Elsewhere… temperatures will be below freezing for 15 to 18 hours from this evening into tomorrow morning. Temperatures will once again fall into the upper teens to lower 20s across North Texas Wednesday night.

During extended outbreaks of cold weather it is really going to be chilly so that residents are advised to wear enough warm clothing and/or are encouraged to dress in layers to avoid the impacts of cold.

The weather is expected to turn more benign during the weekend, leading to a week of mostly clear skies but with some sharp variations in temperature.
