Barack Obama Inaugurated as 44th President of the United States

DALLAS, Jan 20, 2009 / FW/ — At 12:05 PM Eastern Standard Time, Barack Obama, the son of an immigrant from Kenya became the 44th President of the United States and the first African American to be voted into the highest office in the land.

While the political pundits will dissect and interpret his inaugural speech for posterity and celebrity websites will write about the dresses that the First Lady Michelle Obama was wearing, I am writing this as a person who immigrated to the United States like President Obama’s father.

That President Barack Obama is a first generation American speaks well about my adopted country. Political pundits have said before that Presidents are “born” and “not made”; with Obama’s election, they could write an exception to the rule.

And because this is a fashion website, it will be fitting to say that President Barack Obama took his oath of office wearing a winter overcoat. Being tall and slim, he could be latest fashion icon for menswear in his first year of office and beyond.
