Around Cavinti

Come the month of May, Cavintinians worldwide would begin to think Cavinti. Why? Because May is the happiest month in that town. Hence, if you  are out of town/country, you  will make plans for a balikbayan trip to your hometown to partake of the joy and the merriment in the various scheduled activities. And the Jawilis of California were not exceptions.  Lucy Juanillo Jawili and her two children, Sammy and Bubot, together with their respective family flew to the Philippines sometime in the last week of May and stayed there until June 20, 2008.

While in Cavinti, the parents took the opportunity to show the community to the children, this being the kids’ first time to visit the place. They visited Pueblo El Salvador in Tibatib and Porta Verde Resort in Mahipon (Lumot). Tibatib and Mahipon are two barangays in Cavinti, the latter more popularly known as Lumot.

The visitors saw many types of scenery and places that they could not see in Manila or in California. They saw a typical Cavinti way of life in the barrio. Likewise, they enjoyed riding on horseback,  on a carabao and on a sled. They found out their trip  to be a great experience for both the adults and the children.

The truth is . . . they and the traditional customs of the Cavintinians are becoming more difficutlt to find nowadays  because they are slowly vanishing,  especially in their authentic practice.
