Cavinti Hosted “SAVE LAGUNA DE BAY Amazing Race ’09″
The town of Cavinti was among the host-municipalities in Laguna in the recently-concluded ” SAVE LAGUNA DE BAY AMAZING RACE ’09″. The race was held last April 25-26, 2009.
The Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) in cooperation with Cycling Advocates and Adventures (CYCAD) staged the adventure race, featuring towns around Laguna Lake.
In its official letter addressed to Municipal Mayor Flocelie L. Esguerra, the organizers deemed necessary to include Cavinti as one of the pit stops, Cavinti, being part of the majestic Laguna de Bay watershed, to make the racers appreciate the importance of the watershed in the rehabilitation of Laguna Lake. Further, the racers and spectators realized that there are lot of potential ecotourism spots around Laguna that are just waiting to be discovered. CAVINTI is one of the more important ecotourism spots in this part of Laguna.
Mayor Flor readily gave in to the organizer’s requests in accomodating the racers at the Transfiguration Parish Church and PUEBLO EL SALVADOR CAVINTI NATURE’S PARK AND PICNIC GROVE- the Amazing Race’s PIT STOP # 5.
Pit Stop # 5 proved to be the most difficult pit stop for most of the racers. The challenge posed by the organizers was for the racers to trek down the now becoming more popular and more adventurous route to the majestic CAVINTI FALLS (otherwise known as Magdapio Falls)
Mr. Leo Oracion, a Filipino who once conquered Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak conquered PUEBLO EL SALVADOR CAVINTI NATURE’S PARK AND PICNIC GROVE last April 25, 2009. Leo Oracion and 49 other participants were clueless as to how they would be able to reach that magnificent Waterfalls in the shortest possible time.
“I loved the experience and surely I will come back to this place,” uttered Mr. Oracion when asked how he felt after trekking down the metal ladders of PUEBLO EL SALVADOR CAVINTI NATURE’S PARK AND PICNIC GROVE.
