Rizalina Marba enrolled as a first year high school student at the Medel National High School in Bacolod City this school year opening 2009-2010. She is 77 years old. According to her, the last time she attended school was in 1948 but became a dropout of Sagay National High School in Negros Occidental because she had to attend to her small children.
She said she had always wanted to become a nurse in spite of their poverty. But an opportunity knocked on her door. She recently was widowed. Using her pension, she grabbed the chance to enroll in high school to complete her secondary education.
Her teachers have observed that she is very attentive and still has a good memory despite her age.
Rizalina, a mother of 9 and a grandma of 26, after completing her secondary education, hopes to take up nursing in college.
